Everybody’s got a list of their all-time favorite writers. The beauty is, most of them are providing a lot of insight and updates into their world on their Web pages. Recently I tracked down some of my favorite authors to see what new books to expect. One of them, Steven Pressfield (author of Gates of Fire, http://blog.stevenpressfield.com) has a blog he updates regularly that includes writing tips and current events. His review of the book Improv Wisdom struck a chord because it’s something I’ve been struggling with regarding my writing time. He highlighted one particular maxim from the book: Just Show Up.
Just show up. Move your body toward your dreams. Go to where they’re happening–the gym, the office, the yoga class. Be there physically.”
That lesson could apply to near anything. Especially faith. James 4:8 begins “Drawn near to God and he will draw near to you.” I’m often of the mindset to pray for something to happen or think about what I should be writing or pursuing. Actually beginning the process, actually praying and then applying the right attitude to what I am praying about — that’s what creates success.
